fb jili777 Modernisation has undoubtedly made our lives more convenient, introducing technological advancements and streamlined processes that save time and effort. However, this rapid pace of life comes with a heavy toll on mental health. The constant pressure to perform, stay connected, and keep up with an ever-evolving world has led to increased stress, anxiety, and burnout. Social media overexposure, lack of downtime, and the erosion of work-life balance only compound these challenges. While progress has its perks, it has also highlighted the need for effective mental health strategies, reminding us that true well-being requires a balance between advancement and inner peace. Innovative Therapies in Modern Mental Health Care Emerging Techniques in Mental Wellness: Dr. Ashish Bansal, MD, Consultant Psychiatrist and Co-Founder of House of Aesthetics in New Delhi, says that there is an urgent need to address mental health challenges, combining traditional therapies with new-age technologies. Neurofeedback Therapy: Dr. Bansal describes this technique as a way to regulate brainwave patterns using EEG monitoring. “It's a great therapy to get relief from anxiety, PTSD etc. and enhances the focus of the individuals,” he says. Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: For deep healing and overcoming end-of-life anxiety, depression etc., this therapy is quite an emerging way. Psychiatrists are trying to use this technique to help dealing with individuals to recover in a better way, says Dr. Bansal. Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET): Dr. Bansal explains how VRET helps individuals confront fears and overcome phobias or anxiety. “When exposed with their fears that trigger anxiety, a psychiatrist helps his clients to help them overcome their challenges,” he says. Heart Rate and Respiratory Rate Variability: Dr. Bansal says, “Research has proven a direct association between mental health and heart rate variability (HRV) as well as respiratory rate variability (RRV). These signify the status of the body’s autonomic nervous system which is responsible for regulating the mood and achieving emotional balance. HRV biofeedback therapy is useful for the management of anxiety and depressive symptoms.” Holistic Practices for Everyday Mental Well-Being Mindfulness: Aamish Dhingra, ICF-PCC Certified Life Coach and Co-Founder of Cocoweave Coaching International, explains that mindfulness is one of the simplest yet most effective strategies to ease life’s complexities. It involves living in the present moment, leaving behind the distress of the past and worries about the future. He recommends starting with 5–10 minutes and gradually increasing the duration. Healing with Sound: Dhingra highlights sound therapy as an effective way to align the mind with the body. Using instruments like gongs and tuning forks, this technique employs vibrations and frequencies to calm a chaotic mind. These sounds mimic brainwaves, helping individuals enter a meditative, deeply healing state. Visualisation Technique: Dhingra also promotes visualisation, which encourages individuals to imagine the reality they want to manifest. By focusing on a goal in detail and envisioning the emotions tied to its achievement, this method helps foster positivity and clarity. Digital Detox: Dhingra stresses the importance of taking breaks from social media. He advises establishing screen-free hours and replacing mindless scrolling with informative reading to reduce digital dependency. Mapping Goals with a Life Coach: A life coach, according to Dhingra, not only motivates individuals but also helps resolve personal, professional, and internal conflicts. Acting as a supportive guide, they help broaden perspectives and navigate challenges. However, it remained exclusively to paid users so far. Now, Grok AI bot is available for free to all! But there are some limitations. Elon Musk’s AI-powered chatbot, Grok, developed by his company xAI, is now finally free for all users! Previously available only to X (formerly Twitter) premium subscribers, Grok has now removed its paywall, making it accessible to a broader audience. It must be noted that so far, Grok has been exclusively available to X Premium or Premium+ subscribers. This strategic shift brings Grok as a serious competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, both of which have offered free versions since their launch. However, it must be noted that xAI hasn’t officially announced this change in strategy, but several users on X have confirmed that they got access to Grok without a premium subscription. We have personally checked that Grok is available to try through the X platform. But it comes with some limitations! What Users Can Expect from Free Access The free version of Grok AI does come with certain limitations. You can send up to 10 messages every two hours and process a maximum of three images per day. Moreover, the rollout of Grok is limited to some countries and regions. Hence, if you are unable to access it on your X app, then there are chances that this isn’t available yet in your region. These restrictions could be temporary, especially if xAI plans to expand Grok’s functionality in the future. Another important thing to note is that unlike ChatGPT and Gemini, which have dedicated apps on iOS and Android, Grok remains integrated within the X platform. Grok AI: Expectations For Future Expansion Elon Musk has been suggesting the addition of new features to Grok that would allow it to look into files such as documents, PDFs, and even Word files. This feature would set Grok apart in the increasingly competitive environment with AI chatbots. In attempting to expand Grok’s features, Musk has also stepped up his legal combat against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging them of being monopolists in the AI marketplace. Further, the competition over the leadership in the booming AI industry has widened, as Musk has even brought Microsoft into a lawsuit. Click for more latest Tech news . PHILADELPHIA – Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown’s troubles connecting on the field have yet to blow into a family feud inside the locker room — honest, both Philadelphia Eagles stars said. Between Hurts and Brown, it’s all good in Philly. Recommended Videos “Me and Jalen are good,” Brown said. Added Hurts, “We’re good, we’re good.” So there will be no sit-ups in the driveway, no apologies on the front lawn, and certainly, it seems, no rift between Hurts and his No. 1 receiver. Hurts and Brown each downplayed any hint of a fissure Wednesday between the two after defensive end Brandon Graham appeared this week on a Philadelphia sports radio station and suggested there was friction between the Pro Bowl duo. The two were close friends long before they became teammates and Hurts is the godfather for Brown’s daughter. Graham's comments — in which he noted “ things have changed ,” between the two, without offering specifics — exploded into tabloid and fan fodder this week in Philadelphia. His insinuations that the duo were not on the same page came on the heels of Brown's quote after a sluggish win over Carolina that the “ offense ” wasn’t playing up to standard, even with the Eagles at 11-2. “BG knows he spoke out of place,” Hurts said. Graham, who is sidelined with a triceps injury, clarified his comments later to an ESPN reporter, saying he made the wrong assumption about the relationship between Hurts and Brown and planned to apologize to both players. Brown, with 109 yards receiving combined the last two games, said his beef with the offense wasn't directed at Hurts. It was everything from offensive coordinator Kellen Moore's play calling to execution to all the ingredients in a successful offense that make a team a Super Bowl contender. The usually pass-happy Eagles have leaned more on running back Saquon Barkley, who set the franchise season rushing record of 1,623 yards against the Panthers and is chasing Eric Dickerson for the NFL mark. “Obviously, it's not about running the ball,” Brown told reporters. “He's about to win MVP. Clearly. What other things can we do on offense? We have to pass the ball. That can go into protection, that can go into picking up the block, that goes to us getting open quicker. Getting on the same page.” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said he never witnessed any issues between Hurts and Brown and only saw two players who worked hard together, even working on routes after practice and seemed to have a deep personal connection on and off the field. “You guys get to see three hours every Sunday where emotions can play as high as they’re going to play,” Sirianni said. “I get to see these guys every single day, how they go about their business and interact with each other.” Brown, who was coming off consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, wasn't necessarily wrong in his frustration with the recent stagnation of the passing game. Hurts, who signed a contract extension ahead of the 2023 season that was worth $179.3 million guaranteed , has thrown for fewer than 200 yards in three straight games. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith — who also complained Sunday about the offense — was also coming off consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons but has yet to break 100 yards in a game this season. Brown has four 100-yard games, well off last season’s run when he topped 100 yards in six straight games and seven times overall. Hurts has been more efficient than explosive this season but has still thrown 12 touchdown passes to just one interception — and rushed for 11 more scores — during the Eagles' nine-game winning streak that has them on the brink of clinching the NFC East. Maybe playing the Steelers on Sunday at home can snap the Eagles out of their offensive malaise. Hurts threw three TD passes to Brown in a 35-13 win in 2022. “Do we all have things to get better at in the passing game? Yeah, I think that’s obvious,” Sirianni said. “I think that’s what we’ve been talking about. We all have things that we’ve got to get better at, coaches, players. But this is why this is the greatest team sport there is. It takes everybody. It takes every single person being together, every single person for the success to happen. It’s just not a one-person thing.” ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFLNew Delhi [India], December 30 (ANI): India's Current Account Deficit (CAD) is expected to remain at 1.1 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), according to a report by ICICI Bank. The report highlighted significant changes in the country's external position in recent months, driven by a widening trade deficit and foreign portfolio investment (FPI) outflows. Also Read | BTS V aka Kim Taehyung Birthday: From Fun Moments With Jungkook to Pranks With Jimin, Here Are 7 Precious Moments of 'Winter Ahead' Singer. It said "We expect CAD at 1.1 per cent of GDP in FY25" In November 2024, India's trade deficit reached a record high of USD 37.8 billion, primarily due to gold imports totaling USD 14.9 billion. Additionally, non-oil and non-gold imports have been on the rise, increasing by 3.5 per cent year-on-year during October-November 2024. On the export side, while oil exports have declined by 36 per cent during the same period, non-oil exports have shown a positive trend. Electronics and engineering goods exports grew by 50 per cent and 27 per cent year-on-year, respectively, in October-November 2024. The report also cautioned that despite government efforts to manage gold imports, the trade deficit is likely to remain under pressure due to a weaker global growth outlook. This is attributed to rising interest rates worldwide, with the U.S. Federal Reserve signaling a higher trajectory for rates. The report "Even as the government is working on reconciling gold imports, the trade deficit outlook is worse because of lower global growth outlook". It stated that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows have remained robust; however, higher outflows driven by exits in India's thriving primary equity market have offset the gains. As a result, the Balance of Payments (BoP) scenario has shifted significantly. While the first half of FY25 saw a surplus of USD 23.8 billion, the second half is witnessing a steep decline. The overall BoP surplus is expected to remain neutral for FY25, with a risk of turning negative if FPI outflows exceed estimates. On a positive note, India's services exports and remittances have seen strong growth, helping to offset the impact of higher gold imports and weaker oil exports. This has ensured that the CAD remains manageable despite mounting challenges in the trade and capital flows landscape. The government has cautioned against propaganda claims circulating on social media. The Syrian Army emphasized on Saturday that its forces operating in the southern provinces of Daraa and Suwayda have repositioned and redeployed, establishing a strong and cohesive security cordon in the areas. A statement issued by the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces read, “The redeployment and repositioning came after terrorist elements attacked the army's dispersed checkpoints and positions, aiming to distract our armed forces, which have begun regaining control in the provinces of Homs and Hama against terrorist organizations.” The statement stressed that the armed forces are addressing developments with a focus on ensuring the safety of the nation and its citizens and will confront terrorism with determination and strength. While the Syrian army fights armed groups in Homs and Hama provinces, other militants in southern Syria are attacking Syrian army positions in Daraa and Suwayda. This has led Jordan to close its border as the fighting in Syria has reached close to Jordanian territory. Making matters worse for the government in Damascus, militants allied with the United States have reportedly taken control of areas in Dayr al-Zor province near the Iraqi border. Militants have also claimed to have controlled Quneitra near the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan, near the occupied Palestine border, Reuters reported, citing two militants and a Syrian officer. After capturing the cities of Aleppo and Hama in a surprise offensive, militants have vowed to continue heading south and take over the strategic city of Homs. Experts believe the fate of Homs will determine who controls the Arab country. A Syrian military source stated that “reports broadcast by some media channels about terrorists entering the al-Qaryatayn (a town in central Syria, administratively part of the Homs Governorate) are unfounded.” The source added that Syrian forces remain in their positions in the al-Qaryatayn area and are fully prepared. Meanwhile, another Syrian military source said that forces operating in the countryside of Hama and Homs “carried out intensive artillery and rocket strikes on terrorist positions and supply lines, achieving direct hits among them.” Additionally, joint Syrian-Russian airstrikes targeted terrorist gatherings in northeastern Homs countryside, killing dozens of militants and destroying their vehicles. The militant offensive has been mostly led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in the northeast, formerly known as the Nusra Front or Jabhat al-Nusra, which was aligned with al-Qaeda. The Syrian state television reported that “the death toll among terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra and its affiliated groups has risen to approximately 2,500 over the past week, as the army, supported by Syrian and Russian air forces, repelled their attacks.” Later, a Syrian military source indicated that “terrorists are resorting to entering some villages and areas, requesting permission from residents to film for a few minutes before leaving. They use these clips in their media propaganda to falsely portray control over these areas, aiming to affect the morale of our people and our valiant army.” On Friday, the Syrian army carried out a special operation targeting the Dar al-Kabira - Talbiseh - Rastan axis in northern Homs countryside. According to a military source in the Syrian Ministry of Defense, the operation resulted in the killing of dozens of militants, causing panic, confusion, and mass flight among their ranks. Meanwhile, a military source denied reports circulated by some media outlets and pages affiliated with terrorist organizations about any withdrawal of Syrian army units from the vicinity of Homs city and its countryside. John Lowe, a retiree in his sixties, had been living at the Beauty Point Tourist Park for two years when he and two others were issued with eviction notices in July. Earlier in the year, after a number of issues arose at the park, Mr Lowe formed a residents' association and began advocating for those living at the park to politicians, the media, and on social media. Beauty Point Tourist Park fronts the Tamar River in northern Tasmania. (Facebook: Beauty Point Tourist Park ) In a letter to the park's other occupants, managing director Joshua Manticas alleged those being evicted had "been actively engaged in a campaign of personal denigration against our directors". But following the attempted eviction, Mr Lowe took the case to the Supreme Court, which on Tuesday issued a temporary injunction against his eviction and the removal of his home from the park while his breach-of-contract case was heard. Park's attempt to change rules in question About 60 people live at the Beauty Point Tourist Park, with some having been there for more than a decade. They own their homes, which the park describes as "removable vans and annexes", but pay fortnightly fees to management. Former President Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 100. The 39th president of the United States was a Georgia peanut farmer who sought to restore trust in government when he assumed the presidency in 1977 and then built a reputation for tireless work as a humanitarian. He earned a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Carter died Sunday, coming up on two years after entering hospice care, at his home in Plains, Georgia. At age 52, Carter was sworn in as president on Jan. 20, 1977, after defeating President Gerald R. Ford in the 1976 general election. Carter left office on Jan. 20, 1981, following his 1980 general election loss to Ronald Reagan. Here's the latest: President Joe Biden has scheduled a state funeral in Washington for former President Jimmy Carter on Jan. 9. Biden also declared Jan. 9 as a National Day of Mourning across the U.S. Carter, the longest-lived former president, died Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia. He was 100. Biden also ordered U.S. flags to fly at half-staff for 30 days from Sunday. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Sunday praised Carter for his significant contributions to international peace through the Camp David Accords, the SALT II Treaty and the Panama Canal treaties. “President Carter’s commitment to international peace and human rights also found full expression after he left the presidency,” Guterres said in a statement. "He played a key role in conflict mediation, election monitoring, the promotion of democracy, and disease prevention and eradication. These and other efforts earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 and helped advance the work of the United Nations. “President Carter will be remembered for his solidarity with the vulnerable, his abiding grace, and his unrelenting faith in the common good and our common humanity,” Guterres said. King Charles III joined leaders from around the world in issuing their condolences and sharing their reflections on the former president. “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of former President Carter," the king said in a public statement. “He was a committed public servant, and devoted his life to promoting peace and human rights. His dedication and humility served as an inspiration to many, and I remember with great fondness his visit to the United Kingdom in 1977." President Joe Biden broke from his family vacation in the U.S. Virgin Islands to remember Carter, recalling his predecessor as a role model and friend. America and the world lost a “remarkable leader” with Carter’s death, Biden said, adding that he had spoken to several of the former president's children and was working with them to formalize memorial arrangements in Washington. Speaking for roughly 10 minutes, Biden remembered Carter as a humanitarian and statesman, someone he couldn't imagine walking past a person in need without trying to help them. He represented “the most fundamental human values we can never let slip away,” Biden said. The president repeatedly praised Carter's “simple decency” and his values, saying some will see him as a man of honesty and humility from a bygone era. “I don’t believe it’s a bygone era. I see a man not only of our time, but for all times,” Biden said. “To know his core, you need to know he never stopped being a Sunday school teacher at that Baptist church in Plains, Georgia.” Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said on X that Carter's significant role in achieving the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel "will remain etched in the annals of history.” He went on to say Carter's “humanitarian work exemplifies a lofty standard of love, peace, and brotherhood.” Carter will be remembered as “one of the world’s most prominent leaders in service to humanity,” el-Sissi said. President Joe Biden will speak about Carter Sunday evening. The president will make his address from a hotel in St. Croix, from the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he is on a holiday vacation with his family. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter had one of the great love stories and political partnerships in U.S. presidential history. The former president sometimes called his wife, who died Nov. 19. 2023, “Rosie,” which is a good way to remember how her name actually is pronounced. It is “ROSE-uh-lyn,” not, repeat NOT, “RAHZ-uh-lyn.” They were married more than 77 years but their relationship went back even further. Jimmy’s mother, “Miss Lillian,” delivered Eleanor Rosalynn Smith at the Smith home in Plains on Aug. 18, 1927. The nurse brought her eldest child back a few days later to visit, meaning the longest-married presidential couple met as preschooler and newborn. She became his trusted campaign aide and White House adviser, surprising Washington by sitting in on Cabinet meetings. Then they traveled the world together as co-founders of The Carter Center. Most of the nation saw the former president for the last time at Rosalynn Carter’s funeral. Jason Carter is now the chairman of The Carter Center’s board of governors. He said his grandparents “never changed who they were” even after reaching the White House and becoming global humanitarians. He says their four years in Washington were just one period of putting their values into action and that the center his grandparents founded in Atlanta is a lasting “extension of their belief in human rights as a fundamental global force.” Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter traveled the world advocating for democracy and fighting disease, but Jason Carter said they weren’t motivated by pity, or arrogance that a former American president had all the answers — they ventured to remote places because they could “recognize these people.” They too were from “a 600-person village” and understood that even the poorest people “have the power ... the ability ... the knowledge and the expertise to change their own community.” As reaction poured in from around the world, President Joe Biden mourned Carter’s death, saying the world lost an “extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian” and he lost a dear friend. Biden cited Carter’s compassion and moral clarity, his work to eradicate disease, forge peace, advance civil and human rights, promote free and fair elections, house the homeless and advocacy for the disadvantaged as an example for others. Biden said he is ordering a state funeral for Carter in Washington. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is remembering Carter as a man steeped “in devotion to public service and peace.” The California Democrat said in a statement Sunday that Carter was committed to “honoring the spark of divinity within every person,” something she said manifested in “teaching Sunday school in his beloved Marantha Baptist Church, brokering the landmark Camp David Accords to pave the way to peace or building homes with Habitat for Humanity.” Pelosi also said Carter led “perhaps the most impactful post-presidency in history.” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer noted in a post on X the special contribution Carter made by brokering the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt and through his work with the Carter Center. “Motivated by his strong faith and values, President Carter redefined the post-presidency with a remarkable commitment to social justice and human rights at home and abroad,” Starmer said. To commemorate Carter’s death, officials with the Empire State Building said in a post on social media that the iconic New York City landmark would be lit in red, white and blue on Sunday night, “to honor the life and legacy” of the late former president. In a statement issued Sunday, former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama said Carter’s beloved Maranatha Baptist Church “will be a little quieter on Sunday,s” but added that the late former president “will never be far away -- buried alongside Rosalynn next to a willow tree down the road, his memory calling all of us to heed our better angels.” Noting the “hundreds of tourists from around the world crammed into the pews” to see the former president teach Sunday school, as he did “for most of his adult life,” the Obamas listed Carter’s accomplishments as president. But they made special note of the Sunday school lessons, saying they were catalysts for people making a pilgrimage to the church. “Many people in that church on Sunday morning were there, at least in part, because of something more fundamental: President Carter’s decency.” The longest-lived American president died Sunday, more than a year after entering hospice care , at his home in the small town of Plains, Georgia, where he and his wife, Rosalynn, who died at 96 in November 2023 , spent most of their lives. “Our founder, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia,” The Carter Center said in posting about his death on the social media platform X. It added in a statement that he died peacefully, surrounded by his family. In his 1975 book “Why Not The Best,” Carter said of himself: “I am a Southerner and an American, I am a farmer, an engineer, a father and husband, a Christian, a politician and former governor, a planner, a businessman, a nuclear physicist, a naval officer, a canoeist, and among other things a lover of Bob Dylan’s songs and Dylan Thomas’s poetry.” A moderate Democrat, Carter entered the 1976 presidential race as a little-known Georgia governor with a broad smile, outspoken Baptist mores and technocratic plans reflecting his education as an engineer. After he left office and returned home to his tiny hometown of Plains in southwest Georgia, Carter regularly taught Sunday School lessons at Maranatha Baptist Church until his mobility declined. Those sessions drew visitors from around the world. Former Vice President Al Gore praised Jimmy Carter for living “a life full of purpose, commitment and kindness” and for being a “lifelong role model for the entire environmental movement.” Carter, who left the White House in 1981 after a landslide defeat to Ronald Reagan. concentrated on conflict resolution, defending democracy and fighting disease in the developing world. Gore, who lost the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush, remains a leading advocate for action to fight climate change. Both won Nobel Peace Prizes. Gore said that “it is a testament to his unyielding determination to help build a more just and peaceful world” that Carter is often “remembered equally for the work he did as President as he is for his leadership over the 42 years after he left office.” During Gore’s time in the White House, President Bill Clinton had an uneasy relationship with Carter. But Gore said he is “grateful” for “many years of friendship and collaboration” with Carter. Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, remember Carter as a man who lived to serve others. “Hillary and I mourn the passing of President Jimmy Carter and give thanks for his long, good life. Guided by his faith, President Carter lived to serve others — until the very end." The statement recalled Carter's many achievements and priorities, including efforts “to protect our natural resources in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, make energy conservation a national priority, return the Panama Canal to Panama, and secure peace between Egypt and Israel at Camp David." After he left office, the Clinton statement said, Carter continued efforts in "supporting honest elections, advancing peace, combating disease, and promoting democracy; to his and Rosalynn’s devotion and hard work at Habitat for Humanity — he worked tirelessly for a better, fairer world,” the statement said.Sam Altman's Nuclear Startup Oklo Signs Huge Power DealDetroit (AP) — China will soon see a massive expansion of electric vehicle battery swapping, as global battery maker CATL said Wednesday it is investing heavily in stations there next year. Battery swapping is not new — but it's had a challenging journey. Adoption of electric vehicles has varied in regions across the globe over the past several years, and that doesn't always bode well for building new infrastructure. Giants' offense explodes in 45-33 win, knocking Colts out of playoff raceAmerican and European stock markets mostly rose on Wednesday after inflation data cemented expectations that the US Federal Reserve will trim interest rates next month. While the Dow fell slightly, the other two major US indices advanced, led by the tech-rich Nasdaq, which piled on almost two percent to close above 20,000 points for the first time. The consumer price index (CPI) rose to 2.7 percent last month from a year ago, up slightly from 2.6 percent in October. "With the CPI numbers broadly in line, it is likely that the Fed will not be derailed and will cut rates again next week," Jochen Stanzl, chief market analyst at CMC Markets. "The data is not a showstopper for the current bull run on Wall Street," he added. Ahead of the data, investors priced in an 86 percent chance the Fed will cut interest rates next week by a quarter percentage point. That rose to more than 98 percent after the CPI data was published. Stocks in Paris and Frankfurt rose ahead of the European Central Bank's own interest rate announcement on Thursday, with analysts expecting another cut as it seeks to boost eurozone growth. Investors are also eyeing political developments in France, where officials said President Emmanuel Macron aims to name a new prime minister "within 48 hours" as he seeks to end political deadlock following the ouster of Michel Barnier. In company news, shares in German retail giant Zalando shed more than four percent on Frankfurt's DAX index, after it acquired domestic rival About You in a deal worth around 1.1 billion euros ($1.2 billion). Shares in Zara owner Inditex slid more than six percent after a record quarterly profit for the group fell short of market estimates. Among US companies, Google parent Alphabet earned 5.5 percent as it announced the launch of Gemini 2.0, its most advanced artificial intelligence model to date. That added to gains after Google also announced Tuesday details of a breakthrough quantum chip. Shares in Shanghai rose but Hong Kong gave up an early rally to end in the red. Traders were keeping tabs on China to see if it will announce further measures to support its struggling economy as leaders were to gather Wednesday for a conference to hammer out next year's agenda. President Xi Jinping and other top leaders on Monday announced their first major shift in policy for more than a decade, saying they would "implement a more active fiscal policy and an appropriately relaxed" strategy. Those remarks sparked hopes for more interest rate cuts and the freeing up of more cash for lending. Apiaries abuzz over ruling against widening cross-border trade in live honeybeesJun 2, 2024; Hamilton, Ontario, CAN; Joel Dahmen hits his tee shot at the fourth hole during the final round of the RBC Canadian Open golf tournament. Mandatory Credit: Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports/ File Photo Joel Dahmen has handled the pressure of closing out a PGA Tour victory, but even that didn't equate to the emotional weight he felt standing over a 5 1/2-foot putt in Georgia on Friday. Miss it, and Dahmen was assured of missing out on fully exempt status on the PGA Tour for 2025. Make it, and he would get to live to fight another weekend. The 37-year-old steadied his hands to drain the putt and make the cut on the number at 1-under par at The RSM Classic on Sea Island, Ga. Dahmen enters the weekend projected to finish 126th in the FedEx Cup Fall standings -- only the top 125 earn fully exempt status for next year. "It was a great putt. I was very nervous," he admitted after the round. "But there's still work to do. It wasn't the game-winner, it was like the half-court shot to get us like at halftime. But without that and the way I played today, I wouldn't have anything this weekend. "I'm hoping I play great this weekend and I hit 36 greens and I just kind of plod my way around and it's super easy, but that's not the way golf is. Really proud of myself today, but there's still work to do." Nothing has come easy this season for the winner of the 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. Ranked as high as 58th in the Official World Golf Ranking, Dahmen has plummeted as low as 240th this year while posting a lone Top 10 finish against 10 missed cuts in 28 events. This week marks No. 29, including all eight during the FedEx Fall swing as Dahmen has attempted to improve his FedEx Cup ranking. He finished T14 in Mexico two weeks ago, but hasn't managed better than a T40 in the other six. That included a missed cut in Bermuda last week, which ratcheted the pressure up that much more. "You can't get away from anything. The room's a little more quiet around you. Like a pitcher throwing a no-hitter this week, it's a little different," Dahmen said. "Once I missed the cut in Bermuda last week, stress has been high. "You lay in bed, try to go to sleep, but it's like you're sleeping on the lead of a major every night. That's kind of what it feels like, but a little more stressful than that." Dahmen's chances of securing exempt status appeared bleak after opening with a 73 on Thursday. He fell to 2 over with an opening bogey on No. 1, then managed three birdies over his next 15 holes to set up the all-important putt on 18. When the putt dropped, Dahmen hugged his wife, Lona, and playing partner Mark Hubbard said the all the drama during a Friday round in November caused him to "stress drink." "I'm sorry for them, I'm sorry that they're feeling the way I'm feeling," Dahmen said. "I know my wife has been stressed. I have a lot of great people around me and so it's hard on them, but it's just because they love me and they care about me. "I mean, job's not done. ... We have two more steps to go." If Dahmen doesn't improve his standing at least one spot by the end of the weekend, he will still retain conditional status in the Nos. 126-150 category. Either way, Dahmen -- who gained "every man" fame along with caddie Gino Bonnali in the Netflix documentary "Full Swing" -- said his professional golf story is far from done. "I still got more to write this weekend, for sure, but without having the opportunity to play this weekend, my story would be a lot shorter this year," he said. "What happens this weekend, my story's still not done. I have a lot left in me and I'm going to give my all. "But this weekend's big, for sure." --Field Level Media REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.
